These are the attributes Whitehorse guitarist Rob Hunter aka Roxx Hunter uses to describe himself.
Raised in a cult-like upbringing in Detroit, Michigan, his childhood was marked by personal tragedies and loss. But he rose above it all through music. Following his childhood dream of becoming a Rock’n Roller he relentlessly taught himself to play the guitar. Today, Roxx has established himself as a well sought after guitar player in the Yukon performing at live events and as a studio session player.
Roxx gets his musical inspiration from rock masters like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Guns’ n Roses, Poison, and Stryper. But Roxx’s interest in music is not just limited to rock. He is covering a very broad range of music styles from Polka, Gospel, Rap, Children’s music to Bluegrass just to name a few.
He has performed all over the world including China, Finland and Estonia. And here in the north, he played every haunt, juke joint, bar, festival, party, and couch.
One of Roxx’s current projects is Soul Migration who we are presenting in this episode of JAM Live!. This dance band mainly plays covers of the genres funk, rock, blues and reggae, focusing on the groove and having fun. Formed solely out of love for music and an appreciation for the masters, Roxx gathered some of Whitehorse’s finest musicians to create a northern band for all occasions. Soul Migration is playing in small clubs right up to big festivals, packing dance floors and making people smile.
